Intimacy (2024)

As someone who has several roles in her life: choreographer, a married woman for 21 years, a mother of three girls, and a daughter of parents, I began pondering the intimacy I share in my personal and professional relationships. Do I really engage in intimacy? What does it mean to engage in intimacy? What conditions are necessary in order to engage in intimacy? What types of intimacy am I interested in observing through my work with dancers in the studio, what types of intimacy do we create and explore in our collaboration in the studio and outside of it?

I felt that for me, this topic requires a great deal of courage. I was educated in a pluralistic, religiously observant system. This is the first time that I gathered enough bravery to try a different experience, to touch upon content that, until now, I was unwilling to approach. In this creation, I broach these subjects with excitement blended with hesitation.

I am interested in exploring the use of intimate, emotional tension of passion, which is crouched in longing more than actualization. Our way of dealing with these complex concepts was to search for closeness, communication and intimacy. We wondered amongst ourselves about how we work and communicate one with the other, how we become intimate one with the other as dancers and people, what is intimacy to us and how does it translate into a movement language.
